Larry has been involved with Texas Longhorns since 1977 and shortly thereafter served as President of the first Longhorn Youth Association. Heatherly grew up in ranching environments, surrounded by Longhorns, and competed in youth shows.
Larry served many terms as a Director of the International Texas Longhorn Association and was elected by the membership to serve 8 terms as President. Larry is a Lifetime member of the TLBAA, and an Approved Judge evaluating different breeds in 12 states. Larry is honored to be the recipient of three major awards within the Longhorn industry, the Jim Palmer Shock and Awe Award, the Pioneer Breeder Award, and the Happy Shahan Breeder of the Year Award. Larry & Heatherly reside on their ranch in scenic Groesbeck, Texas where they enjoy ranching and raising Longhorns on land acquired by Larry's grandparents. We also raise working registered Border Collies, where Larry enjoys working the dogs out on the ranches and Heatherly loves training the dogs in obedience and to perform agility. Our passion is being close to the cattle. We feel blessed to have raised and shown 12 All Age International Grand Champions on halter and a two time International Produce of Dam. The Longhorns are a perfect fit whether on the ranch or in the Show Arena. Larry and Heatherly are proud that their roots run deep in the western lifestyle. The Groesbeck ranch was purchased in the 1940's by Larry's grandparents to raise Registered Polled Herefords which consistently won at the Texas Fairs in the 1950's. The ranch includes a homestead farm house and barn both constructed in the 1800's. Heatherly's Grandfather, Charlie Woods, was an early 1900's rodeo bronc rider and founding Member of the Cowboys' Turtle Association which was formed in 1936. In 1975, the association changed its name to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. When visiting Fort Worth, the Stockyards Museum has an exhibit commemorating Heatherly's grandfathers historical significance in the forming of the PRCA. |
The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.
